What I Ate Wednesday 20

Oh Wednesday, here you are again! The official 2.5 week countdown until Q’s arrival has begun (and yes I know I talk about it often, but for a countdown that started 8 months ago, 2.5 weeks is pocket change!). Today was a beautiful LA day and I was just sort of in a super good mood all day and super good food followed!

Breakfast – 9:30AM

Oats with almond butter and cinnamon with a side of raspberries and a Whole Foods Almond Milk Latte (my favorite ever).

Lunch – 12:30PM

I had a work lunch at Tavern in Brentwood and I am obsessed. This restaurant is gorgeous (the back room looks like a big green house). The food is so fresh and the menu is right up my alley (lots of salads, soups, sandwiches and a few burgers). I got the The Market Angeleno (Burrata, young broccoli, currants, and pinenuts on fresh ciabatta) and it was to die for. The burrata was creamy and the currants added a great sweetness to the dish. Other dishes at the table were the Turkey Burger and Farro, Tabouleh, Beets, Carrots, Chickpeas and Feta Salad. We ordered two chocolate chip cookies to-go (they offer a crispy and a chewy and they both were made with expensive chocolate and tasted amazing!). I would go back here over and over again if I lived on this side of town.

Dinner – 7:00PM

We pan-seared sea trout (half salmon, half trout) with a side of roasted squash and sauteed pea shoots.

Dessert- 7:45PM

Homemade vanilla bean ice cream with Valrhona chocolate nibs. (Homemade ice cream is such a treat!).

What I Ate Wednesday 19

Well guys, another Wednesday is upon us. This past week brought a lot of fun (birthday dinners, parties, costumes, candy, and cupcakes). And Q and I are now less than 4 weeks away from seeing each other. Knowing that we are actually going to see each other in the month of November is crazy and seriously hard to believe! I have so much excitement and some nerves (something about not seeing someone for 6 months makes me a little anxious in a good way). The official countdown has begun!

And now on to the days food:

Breakfast – 8:30AM

I love that I whip out my pumpkin two days AFTER Halloween, but with the chilly weather this morning I thought I would try some pumpkin oats. In the mix: coach’s oats, water, almond milk, pumpkin, cinnamon, almond butter, a pinch of salt and some raisins.

Lunch – 2:30PM

I waited waaay too long until lunch and was starving by the time we ordered food in our meeting. I had a slice of vegetable pizza and an Italian salad from BJ’s. Both were good and I was full for a long time since I overstuffed (eating while starving = eating too much).

Dinner – 7:00PM

For dinner, I met a few girlfriends at Terroni, an Italian restaurant on Beverly Blvd. across from The Grove. I got an arugula salad with mushrooms and cheese to start and also had a piece of Margherita pizza. The menu was mainly pizza and pasta and I wasn’t hungry enough to enjoy some pasta, so a simple pizza was a good choice. For dessert, we split the nutella fritters which weren’t as great as I had hoped, but still a treat.

What I Ate Wednesday Part 17

Hello from cloudy New York and Happy Wednesday!

Since I am on the go this week for work, food has been more carb and treat-heavy than I normally like it to be. But since I am indulging, I am enjoying every bite instead of feeling guilty (no point in beating yourself up after the fact).

Breakfast – 8:30AM

My breakfast was granola and greek yogurt (hooray for being different!), but I went through the morning thinking it was Thursday and totally did not snap a pic! So instead, a little breakfast collage of recent eats.

Lunch – 12:30PM

Lunch was at Fred’s (located inside Barney’s NY). I loved this menu – a huge selection of delicious salads (chopped, shrimp, tuna, etc.) and also a mix of great American food (chicken, pizza, fish, burgers, etc.). I got the Nice Guy pizza to share (sausage and red peppers) and the Palm Beach Shrimp Salad (shrimp, hearts of palm, avocado, tomato and hard boiled egg) for my main course. Both were delicious. The pizza is so fresh you can taste it and the salad was a great filling lunch and I loved the green goddess dressing they used.

Dinner – 7:30PM

I was starving by the time dinner rolled around, but was happy to go to Morandi, a restaurant I had wanted to try when I was in New York in July. It is rustic Italian cuisine and I thought the food was great although the restaurant was about a thousand degrees inside. I got the Insalata di caolini di Bruxelles (shaved raw Brussels sprouts with percorino & hazelnut dressing) and the Linguine alle vongole (pasta with clams, white wine & green garlic). Both were delicious, but the Brussels sprout salad was something truly unique that I had never had before- crunchy, nutty, light and refreshing. I would go back to this restaurant and order that salad over and over again.

What I Ate Wednesday Part 16

Wow this week has flown by, I can hardly believe Q is coming home in a little over 5 weeks for his break! Eeek, I am so excited! Today’s food was a little off since I was traveling for work (always throws me a bit) and today’s eats were not my best choices.

 Breakfast – 8:00AM

Coach’s Oats topped with Almond Butter and raspberries (a super filling breakfast which is great for a travel day)

Lunch – 1:30PM

When I went to put my memory card in the computer, it wouldn’t recognize it, so all I have is this iPhone photo 😦

For lunch on the road, we stopped at Chick-Fil-A. Since I am a born and raised Los Angeles girl, this was my first trip to a Chick-Fil-A ever. And I have to say, for fast food, it is great. I don’t normally go through the drive-through, I just never really want the food. But on occasions like this where there is no other choice, Chick-Fil-A was great. I got chicken tenders and waffle fries, both tasted fresh and hit the spot.

I hate not having great photos of food, so here is one of lunch from Sunday (bagel thin topped with hummus, avocado and turkey and a salad)

Dinner – 7:30PM

We ate out at a steak restaurant for dinner and since I don’t love red meat, I got a salad (spinach, goat cheese, strawberries, pecans and balsamic) and a baked potato. Again, it totally hit the spot without going overboard.

Tomorrow is another day away from home, but at a set location so I am going to try and make greens the priority! PS – don’t forget to enter for a $20 gift certificate to here (contest ends tomorrow night at 11:00PM PST)

What I Ate Wednesday Part 15

Isn’t it crazy that it is the middle of October and it was 85 degrees out today and we currently have the air conditioner running at 10PM? And yes, I know I live in Los Angeles and this is normal weather, but I was just getting used to wearing my boots and sweaters and now suddenly I am thrown back into shorts and tanks. In other news, I am really excited because my best girlfriend from college, Tina, is coming into town tomorrow for a quick 48 hour trip. We haven’t hung out since her wedding almost one year ago. She is vegan/gluten-free, so I am racking my brain for fun places to take her. Suggestions are welcome!

Since today is Wednesday, let’s get into my food for my weekly “What I Ate Wednesday” post:

Breakfast – 8:45AMCoach’s Oats with Almond Butter and Raspberries (the usual yumminess)

Lunch – 1:30PMFor lunch, my boss and I ordered from the Cheesecake Factory. I got the skinny chicken tacos. They were a little bland, but still good and I also got a side of chicken chili (unpictured since chili is not photogenic :)).For dessert, we got the oreo cheesecake… no explanation needed!

Dinner-  8:00PM I actually had dinner out with my best friend Ashlee at a wonderful restaurant called Marino’s, but failed to take pictures. Instead I wanted to share a meal we had earlier this week. My mom and I made salmon and “fried” rice in our rice cooker and served it alongside roasted eggplant. It was an amazingly easy meal from the cookbook, My Japanese Table and one we will definitely be making again.

I am so excited for Tina’s visit and to share with you the fun we have this weekend! Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

What I Ate Wednesday Part 14

This morning looked a lot like this:

So instead of getting up to do my planned 3 mile run, I stayed in bed and snuggled with these two (how could I resist?):

And since today is Wednesday, below are eats for the day thanks to What I Ate Wednesday!

Breakfast – 9:30AM

Coach’s Oats with Almond Butter and blueberries

Pressed Juicery Grapefruit and Mint (very tart, but good for hydration)

Lunch – 2:00PM

Carbs, Carbs and Carbs… I went out to lunch with friends at the Sunset Tower Hotel and we split everything, so not to worry (so I tell myself)… Pretzel bread and mustard to start, then a flatbread pizza to share and half of a chicken sandwich and fries. Honestly nothing was too amazing except the pretzel bread, so I didn’t finish my meal :(.

Exercise Break – 7:00PM

I hopped on this bad boy for an hour when I got home from work. After eating out and missing my morning run I needed something to get my heart going. It looks boring but I use my iPad to catch up on my blogs and the time flies.

Dinner – 8:00PM

We had Chilean Sea Bass cooked in a light coconut and tomato curry sauce. Sides were brown rice and Choy Sum (Chinese broccoli rabe). I didn’t think I was hungry, but I devoured it (that work out increased my appetite!).

What I Ate Wednesday Part 13

So I finally got to talk to Q this week and guess what happens? My phone line goes out. I mean what are the chances right? We finally got it fixed today, but it was a rough few days talking on my cell and dropping calls left and right (iPhone I love you, but I am not a fan of the dropped calls). Today the technician came over, fixed the phone line and found water damage on our DSL line and guess what? Now our DSL works twice as fast… everything happens for a reason right? Now, food time…

Breakfast – 10:00AM

Coach’s Oats made with vanilla almond milk and water, topped with Sunbutter, blueberries and a sprinkle of Bear Naked Granola. I really liked the addition of the granola, it gave a good crunch.

Lunch – 2:00PM

Umami Burger (the best in LA, seriously)- burger with shiitake mushroom, caramelized onions, roasted tomato, parmesan crisp, umami ketchup. Side of sweet potato fries and some regular ones thrown in too. I’m not a big beef eater, so I had half of this pup, but it was delicious.

Dinner – 6:30PM

Baby Romaine with strawberries, goat cheese and toasted walnuts with a Pomegranate vinaigrette (recipe coming later this week)! After having that burger and fries for lunch I really needed a light dinner and some greens!

Dessert -TBD

Craving a banana bread pudding from Magnolia bakery, we had one of these last weekend during a girls night and I have been dying to have another. But since I’m already in my PJs at 7:40 I’ll probably make some sort of creation in the kitchen that has lots of sugar 🙂
